Our Story
We’re a group of eight friends (seven Greeks and one Italian) who spent a week in the summer of 2024 volunteering with an incredible organization called Global Brigades in Athens, Greece.
We all come from different places - Melina Liodakis lives in the US, Themistokles Giamourides in the UK, Pietro Stefani and Spyros Siokis in Abu Dhabi, and Panajiotis Benos, Evangelina Pantelidaki, Sergios Velidis and Katerina Trouli in Greece - but we came together to make a difference.
Why Global Brigades?
Melina Liodakis was the first volunteer at Global Brigades back in the summer of 2021 during COVID-19.
"As a Greek-American, I wanted to give back to my community, especially during the challenges of COVID-19. I began by volunteering online, helping immigrants and refugees in Greece build their business profiles and improve their digital presence. Through this, I gained a deeper understanding of their hardships and saw how small actions could make a big impact".

The experience was very rewarding, and Melina introduced the Global Brigades Online Program to her school at that time, Beaver Country Day in Brookline. MA.
In the summer of 2024, Melina Liodakis and 7 of her friends decided to volunteer in person for 5 days in Athens, Greece, with the hope that a similar program would be launched in 2025, welcoming kids from all over the world.

Global Brigades Greece opened its Polyclinic at the center of Athens, providing free, consistent, and broad health coverage to vulnerable populations in Athens, with a special focus on refugees and asylum seekers. Here we offer three much-needed specialties: Pediatrics, Ophthalmology, and Gynecology.
The doctors see mostly children and women with a refugee background, as well as other socioeconomically disadvantaged populations such as single parents, chronic patients, unemployed, etc. All patients that come to the Global Brigades Policlinic are valued and respected, empowered and equally treated without discrimination.
For every 28€ donation, we will be able to provide a free medical appointment to someone in need.
